Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 7, 2005 Pilot injured in crash landing SAMS VALLEY — A pilot received minor injuries Wednesday after crashing his home-built airplane moments after taking off from Beagle Sky Ranch, a privately owned airstrip. Crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 3 went to the airstrip at about 1:40 p.m. in response to a report of a downed plane. When crews arrived, they found a single-engine, home-built aircraft on the ground with significant front-end damage. The pilot, a Jackson County resident whose name was not available, told fire officials his plane’s engine quit when he was about 150 feet in the air following takeoff, Hussey said. The pilot was headed south in his plane at the time. Hussey said he believes the man decided to fly Wednesday because of pleasant weather conditions. The pilot received minor injuries in the crash, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said. No other passengers were on board at the time.
