Ashland police continue probe of fireworks ASHLAND -- Police did not make any arrests Tuesday in a case involving illegal fireworks that officers initially thought was dynamite. Detectives were still compiling information on the case, even though a suspect has admitted to illegally possessing the fireworks, said Ashland Capt. Mike DeCapua. "We're waiting for all of the reports and investigation," DeCapua said, "and examination of the devices from the (Oregon State Police) bomb squad." The incident began Monday afternoon when a Union 76 gas station attendant at Interstate 5 and Highway 66 found six cardboard tubes in the back of a 1984 Subaru. The attendant had just bought the car last week from the station and he was cleaning it out. The car had been used as a "loaner" for the station, given to customers who were having their own vehicles worked on by the station's mechanic. The attendant and station owner called police, who evacuated the station as well as the Wild Goose Bar and Cafe and part of the nearby Knights' Inn Motel.
