The leading Republican candidate, Mr. Trump, ridiculed a war hero, made a mockery of a reporter's menstrual cycle, made fun of a disabled reporter, referred to the former first lady, Barbara Bush as "mommy" and belittled Jeb Bush for bringing her on the campaign trail. He routinely calls people "stupid" and "dummy" or "loser." Such insensitivities wouldn't be acceptable even for a middle school student body election. But for the Oval Office? And to do so while brandishing a Bible and boasting of his Christian faith? "It is out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks," Jesus said. We can only hope, and pray, for a return to verbal decency. Deloris Grissom Eagle Point Vet groups differ There was news recently regarding trouble within an organization that provides help for America's wounded warriors. The leaders of the organization were fired by the organization's board of directors for excessive overhead costs. I would like to reassure the people of the Rogue Valley that that is not the organization that tours the country in Ford motor vehicles raising money for the families of wounded warriors. The organization that does is the Wounded Warrior Family Support organization from Omaha, Neb. It has a four-star rating by Charity Navigator, with an overall rating of 95.26 and a transparency of 100 percent. Colonel John D. Folsom USMC (ret) is the founder and CEO. The Wounded Warrior Family Support High Five Tour with a 2016 Shelby GT350 will be at Crater Lake Ford on June 28. The public can sign the car to send well wishes of support to the wounded warriors with a $5 donation. Any veteran who has been awarded the Purple Heart may sign the car free of charge. Lorraine Linder Phoenix Josephine should pay Recently, in a Mail Tribune article (March 14), it appears that Josephine County is in the process of requesting matching funds, our tax dollars, from the state to meet "a minimally adequate level of public safety services" in their county. If one looks up the amount of property tax dollars, by county, one will find that Josephine County's property tax rate is 48 cents per $1,000 dollars of value. By comparison, Jackson County is $2.00 per $1,000. Josephine has one of the two lowest property tax rates in the state and the voters of this county have refused, on many occasions, to increase the property tax rate. Additionally, the median home value in Josephine County is $253,600, which is the ninth highest in the state. To me, this is just another example of making other people — us — pay for something that Josephine County residents have a responsibility to provide for themselves. It seems we have gone from a nation of corporate welfare to a, in this case, state countywide welfare system. Charles A.
