To the Pirates' credit, they didn't push the panic button and methodically came back for a 6-2 road victory. "(Rogue River) came out prepared and motivated," Phoenix first-year coach Jean Schneider said. "We were pretty calm. We knew we could come back and we stuck to our game plan." The Chieftains (1-8, 1-8 Dist. 6) struck for a pair of goals in the first eight minutes. At the fourth minute, Jordan Reyes' through pass split the Pirates' defense and Dannie Hanson slipped it into the Phoenix goal. Four minutes later, Angie Caschera boomed in a 25-yarder off a Reyes assist. Advertisement "It's been a few years for us to be in a 2-0 lead," Rogue River coach Ben Jarman said. "We were pleased but then they put on more pressure. Their stronger midfield made the difference. They put some numbers in there and made it happen." The Phoenix (7-4-1, 6-4 Dist. 6) comeback began when MacKenzie Legg scored on a lob over Chieftain junior goalie Rachael Merrill at the 10th minute. Junior midfielder Megan Burr evened the score 2-2 on a shot outside the penalty box. Then, just before halftime, Burr provided a short pass to Jordan Ceremony, who dribbled in and converted from 12-yards out in the corner of the net. In the second half, Burr assisted on goals by Carlee Storey and Terra Fry and Ashley Watkins scored unassisted. "Burr was really active up there," said Schneider. "Carlee Storey was active as well. She was influential in driving the ball forward from midfield. Phoenix outshot Rogue River, 20-4. Merrill made six saves for the Chieftains. "We dominated the midfield," said Schneider. "We started slow then got in gear and finished off really well." ST. MARY'S 2, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1 — Shelsea Rawson scored the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute to lift St. Mary's to the District 6 win at Fichtner-Mainwaring Field. Rawson's goal came from about 3 yards out and broke a 1-all tie. Cascade Christian scored the opening goal — just its second of the season — on a direct kick by Annabel Purtzer from 25 yards out in the 15th minute. Colleen Seus answered for the Crusaders just seconds before halftime. St. Mary's (3-6 Dist. 6) held a 19-7 advantage in shots on goal. Teresa Gomez played well in goal for the Challengers, who fell to 0-11 in District 6 play. HIDDEN VALLEY 3, HENLEY 0 — At Murphy, Hidden Valley scored all three of its goals in the second half and freshman goalie Katie Fagoni turned a shutout in her first varsity game to give the Mustangs a Skyline Conference victory. The Mustangs' Ellie Misner opened the second half with a goal in the 55th minute and Jessie Hanger scored in the next minute on a pass from Misner to put Hidden Valley up 2-0. Denise Powell also scored in the 73rd minute and assisted on the first goal. Fagoni, who filled in for the injured Melissa Henner, recorded five saves for the Mustangs (11-0, 10-0 Skyline Conference), who outshot Henley 28-5. Southern Sky CRATER 6, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Central Point, Rosita Ramirez's hat trick in the first half propelled Crater to a Southern Sky Conference win. Ramirez scored in the 12th minute on a pass from Andi Bagdan, then again in the 26th minute followed by another goal four minutes later on assist from sophomore Ashley Childers. The Comets (6-2-2, 4-0 Southern Sky Conference) fulfilled their pre-game goal of holding Eagle Point shotless in the first half and only surrendered two shots on goal in second. Junior varsity standout Taylor McGee added the Comets final goal in the 78th minute on a pass from fellow JVer Kylee Van Syoc. Katie Orr had two saves in her third shutout of the season. Bagdan had two assists and Rachel Smith assisted and added a goal in the 50th minute. MAZAMA 1, KLAMATH UNION 0, OT — At Klamath Falls, Marci Toro connected in the 86th minute to give Mazama an overtime win in a Southern Sky Conference match that went scoreless in regulation play.
