California woman ID'd as fatal crash victim

Oregon State Police have released the identity of the woman killed last week in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 140. California resident Vallerie Miller, 66, was driving eastbound on the highway near milepost 30 at about 5 p.m. Thursday when the crash occurred, OSP reported in a news release. Her vehicle, a Jeep SUV, suddenly left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and smashed into a tree, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Lake Creek Rural Fire, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation also responded to the scene. Police said winter weather conditions contributed to the crash. About three and a half hours after the incident, ODOT issued a severe weather hazard for ground fog and packed snow at nearby milepost 36 on the highway.
