Gas station attendant hurt in theft attempt ASHLAND -- Three youths were arrested Saturday night after they reportedly attacked a gas station employee who caught one of them trying to steal from the till. According to a Jackson County sheriff's report, the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. at the Exxon station on Valley View Road, just off Interstate 5. Deputies said the victim was assaulted after he confronted a young man who was trying to open the cash register. It was unclear how badly the victim was injured. About an hour later, an Ashland police officer spotted the suspects' vehicle at a local market and stopped it near the corner of Gresham and Allison streets. Deputies then arrived and took the suspects into custody. One boy, age 17, was lodged at Jackson County Juvenile Detention on charges of attempted first-degree theft and third-degree assault. The other two, also 17, were cited for third-degree assault and released to the custody of their parents. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
