A Medford police officer Tuesday arrested Watson on charges of third-degree robbery and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail and later released after posting bail. Drugs — David Jon Rendon, 24, of the 2400 block of Thorn Oak Drive, Medford. A Medford police officer Tuesday arrested Rendon on charges of possessing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Tuesday on $25,000 bail. Assault — Corey Steven Maher, 21, of the first block of Morton Street, Ashland. An Ashland police officer Tuesday arrested Maher on charges of fourth-degree assault and harassment. He was lodged in jail and later released after posting bail. Crime reports Theft — 5000 block of Upton Road, Central Point. A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy Tuesday took a report of a theft in which an irrigation pump valued at $3,000 was stolen. Theft — 1900 block of Biddle Road, Medford. A Medford police officer Tuesday took a report of a theft in which a diamond ring valued at $1,167.50 was stolen. Miscellaneous Vehicle pursuit — A brief chase through downtown and west Medford streets ended quickly Thursday when a police officer’s patrol vehicle purposely hit the rear bumper of a fleeing car, causing it to spin out and stop near the intersection of Fifth and Bartlett streets. Advertisement The vehicle’s driver, Shane J. Whelchel, 27, was arrested on several charges in addition to felony warrants, Medford police Sgt. Jerry Burchfiel said in a news release. An officer initially tried to stop the vehicle in west Medford at about 8:20 p.m. because he recognized Whelchel and knew he was a wanted person, Burchfiel said. Whelchel did not stop for the officer and instead led police on a four-minute chase. The pursuit ended when an officer used his patrol car to bump Whelchel’s vehicle, which struck and caused minor damage to a pair of parked vehicles, Burchfiel said. Whelchel was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of eluding, reckless driving and methamphetamine possession in addition to the outstanding warrants.
