Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 29, 2005 Police seek men after janitor assaulted By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune A Howard Elementary School janitor was hospitalized after he was beaten Wednesday night by four men on school grounds. Jack Wayne Hills, 48, had just finished cleaning some bathrooms at 8:50 p.m. when he saw four men loitering in a breezeway. Hills had seen the men hanging around the school earlier that night, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. One of the men, who is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 4 inches tall with a thin mustache, brown hair and brown eyes, approached Hills and demanded money. The man then struck Hills in the face, knocking him down, Moran said. The other men then joined in kicking Hills repeatedly while he was on the ground. Hills told police that he was kicked for about five minutes, Moran said. "He couldn’t give the number of kicks because there were so many," Moran said. Two of the other suspects were described as Hispanic and between 18 and 20 years old. One has a slender build with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black T-shirt at the time of the assault. Not much is known about the other Hispanic suspect. The fourth man is described as Caucasian, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. He is described as having short, dirty blond hair and a full mustache. He was wearing a red jacket with white sleeves at the time of the assault. The suspects are wanted on charges of felony assault and third-degree robbery, Moran said. Hills told police that the beating left him in extreme pain. The suspects focused most of their blows on his body, Moran said. Hills waited until Thursday to check himself into Providence Medford Medical Center because he was scared and didn’t know what to do, Moran said. Hospital staff members advised him to contact police, he said. Hills was treated and released. Moran said that anyone in the area of the 200 block of Mace Road who may have seen the suspects leaving the scene that night is asked to call Medford police at 770-4783.
