Winther scored three times in the opening nine minutes and teammates Camille Caven and Jessica Schoepke added goals as the Lancers (3-1-1 overall) trounced North, 5-0. Churchill enjoyed a 20-11 shots advantage in dealing the Tornado (2-1-2) its first defeat of the season. North and the rest of the Southern Oregon Conference begin league play Tuesday. GRANTS PASS 2, MARSHFIELD 1 — At Coos Bay, Kelli Roots bent a 78th-minute corner kick inside the far post to give Grants Pass a non-conference victory. The Cavers (4-1-1) used Jakki Pilcher’s 16th-minute score to take an early lead. ROSEBURG 9, McKAY 0 — At Roseburg, sophomore midfielder Sarah Lindbloom tallied two goals to lead Roseburg to the rout. The Indians (2-3-1) outshot McKay, 29-0, and had eight different players score. NORTH VALLEY 2, ELMIRA 1 — At Merlin, senior midfielder Jessica Lucas curved in a 73rd-minute corner kick to lift North Valley to the non-conference home win. The Knights (3-2) trailed, 1-0, at the half, but sophomore sweeper Cybill Torres pushed forward and connected to tie it at 1-all in the 61st. North Valley didn’t let an 18-6 shots edge go to waste. Boys CHURCHILL 2, NORTH MEDFORD 0 — Late goals from forwards Steven Clayton and Charlie Preganan pushed Churchill to a non-conference victory on the road. Clayton cashed in on a breakaway in the 70th minute, while Preganan beat a Black Tornado defender and senior goalkeeper Alex Meyer from 25 yards out in the 75th. The Lancers earned a 9-8 edge in shots, but North (1-4) took more corner kicks, 3-2. Sophomore starting goalkeeper Devin Torrey made two saves to help the Tornado to a 0-0 tie at the half, and Meyer denied a second-half breakaway before giving up the late scores. Sophomore forward Luis Cabrera’s first-half goal for North was whistled off due to an offside infraction.
