Old Highway 62 closes for sewer pipe project EAGLE POINT -- Highway 62 drivers can't take the shortcut into Eagle Point this month. Old Highway 62 is closed for the next three weeks, from the new highway to Edith Circle (near Ed's Oasis). Drivers should expect delays and flag crews on Royal Avenue through the end of June as construction workers install pipes for the city's sewer project. It's possible the road will be closed again this spring, says Gary Shipley, the city's public works director. Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The sewer project begins at Highway 62, runs along the old highway and continues when it becomes Royal Avenue. The work ends at Teakwood, which is the beginning of the Butte Crest Subdivision, just past Butte Creek Mill. Highway 62 motorists should also expect to wait longer at red lights on Linn Road. The state will program the traffic signal to stay red longer. In other road news, Highway 62 construction won't start up again until April 1, due to wet ground and standing water.
