EDUCATION New principal announced at Cascade Christian Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Jun. 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Jun. 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM » Social News Phil Long, Cascade Christian High School's principal for the past two years, will not return to his post in the fall. Long confirmed Tuesday that he is stepping down. He said a main goal when he took the position was to help the private school district with recent key moves, such as relocating the middle school to the high school campus at 855 Chevy Way, and district's formation of its own school board separate from First Baptist Church. With those jobs done, he said he's ready to pass the torch. "My goal was to help with this transition, and it looks like we've gotten to the other side," Long said. "This seems to be a reasonable time to hand off to the team that I was working with and just wish them well." Devon Rickabaugh, head of schools for Cascade Christian, said she and Long have had an understanding since he came aboard. "We worked together and just knew that there would come a point for him where we would make that transition," she said. "I can't say enough good things about Dr. Long." Long started the principal job Aug. 1, 2014, following a 30-year career in the Medford School District. He served as superintendent the last nine years of his time there, retiring June 30, 2014. Long declined to offer details about what's next for him. "I have several options I'm exploring," he said. "We'll just see what's next." Autumn Boekenoogen, who has served as the high school's assistant principal for the past seven years, will be the new principal in the fall, according to a district news release. The district also announced that Diane McMahon, a former middle school principal in the Prospect School District, will be the principal for the new Cascade Christian Middle School — previously Grace Christian Middle School — at its new $1.9 million facility on the high school's second floor.
