Fisher in this city about a year ago, as the exponent of so-called advanced and progressive ideas in connection with a well-known cult. He bought property on Oak Street and installed a joss house on the premises, equipped with opera chairs and reinforced by a salaried choir with the intent of erecting a disturbing factor into the ranks of the regular Scientist following. The foregoing is the prologue, the curtain having been run down several weeks since. The "Dr." went either to Chicago or California, it matters not which. Developments indicate personal loans which the faithless obtained from among the following of the faithful, also first, second and even third mortgages on the "temple," which has now been relegated to serve its original purpose as a private dwelling, sans theatrical equipment and paid vocal soloist. Mechanicians have been mentioned as among liabilities, assets being practically nil. Bank loans were secured by mortgage in the first classification, leaving and second and third security holders on the waiting list. Factions having been eliminated, the regular following of Scientists, reinforced by seeders, is pursuing the even tenor of its way, thankful for the exit of Fisher for the unwary who used unfair bait. RAGTIME OPERA AT THE PAGE THEATER That indescribably funny fellow Punch Jones and his Rag Time Opera company will offer the big noise at the Page for two nights and two matinees along with one of the biggest feature pictures of the season next Wednesday and Thursday. Punch Jones is a household word wherever there is a Pantages theatre. He is one of those versatile fellows with a splendid singing voice, a great dancer and a monologist in a class by himself. DROUGHT'S EFFECTS SEEN IN SHORTAGE OF VALLEY'S CROPS Although prime quality of corn may be raised in the Rogue River valley, with an excellent yield per acre, the crop is very short in Jackson County this year. Grinding of the new crop will begin as soon as it shall have seasoned sufficiently. Corn on the cob is now selling locally at $1.25 a hundred, while shelled corn of last year's crop is selling at $2.10. In view of the shortage of the crop in the valley this season, much corn will necessarily be shipped in this year, taking out of local circulation money received for other products. The result of this policy may clearly be seen.
