When calling a number found months ago on an order form, we talked to an Ashland city employee, who said, yes, we had the right number, but she knew little about the program. She gave us another number, which we tried and left a message, but we did not receive a return call. Do they already have all the finances in hand and therefore do not need any more money? — Nolan T., Medford If you’ve been reading the Tribune since you submitted this question, Nolan, you know that supporters of the anticipated Lithia Motors Amphitheater haven’t been exactly rolling in dough. Advertisement Earlier this month, Jackson County commissioners agreed to finance $1.7 million to complete construction of the $4 million, 5,900-seat performance center at the Expo Park in Central Point. That amount includes a $900,000 loan along with a $550,000 gift from sale of property and $250,000 in reimbursements for a transportation study. Even with that help, the project needs additions to the $2.3 million in donations already collected, said Leigh Johnson, president of the county Fair Board and the Friends of the Fair Foundation. Between 300 and 400 people have donated $100 apiece to the "Buy a Brick" program so far, Johnson said. "But we could sell 10 times that amount," he added. Basic bricks sell for $100 each and will be used to pave a courtyard area in the new amphitheater. They can be engraved with up to three lines, with 18 letters or spaces per line, Johnson said. Donors have bought bricks to honor family members, friends and even pets, Johnson said. "One individual purchased a brick for his three animals, Baron, Buddy and Corlee," he said. "Two dogs and a cat." Donations of $500 will receive a larger brick in the entry plaza. More sizable donations — $1,000 to $5,000 — receive engraved plaques on reserved seats and names placed on a donor wall.
