COLLEGE ROUNDUP Oregon Tech sweeps SOU Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 25, 2015 at 8:51 PM Posted Mar. 25, 2015 at 8:51 PM » Social News KLAMATH FALLS — Southern Oregon's 14-game homestand couldn't be coming at a better time after 13th-ranked Oregon Tech extended the Raiders' mini-slide Wednesday afternoon with a Cascade Conference sweep. Ashley Sfetku's three-run homer in the fourth inning was the difference as OIT won 3-2 in the opener. In Game 2, Sadie Birch went 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBIs for a 9-3 Owls win. SOU slipped to 21-15 overall and 2-6 in the CCC going into home doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Friday against College of Idaho and 11 a.m. Saturday against Eastern Oregon. OIT went to 23-8 and 7-2. Wednesday's games were originally scheduled to be played in Ashland before rain forced the change Tuesday afternoon. Kristin Ahern gave SOU the initial lead in Game 1 with her third homer in as many doubleheaders and fifth of the season — a solo shot that made it 1-0 in the fourth. Raiders starter Cheyenne Bricker was cruising along until the bottom of that inning, when Tasha Silvius singled, Birch doubled and Sfetku homered consecutively. Krystina Pardoski's RBI single trimmed OIT's lead to 3-2 in the fifth. Ally Painter and Jazmin Ruvalcaba reached with walks in the sixth, but Rylee Carlton came on to record the final two outs and end the threat. Owls pitcher Jessi Duncan allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings to improve to 10-3. Brianne Craig pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Raiders. In the nightcap, Ahern doubled in Alexa Gonzalez to put SOU on the board in the first frame, but OIT got four back in the bottom half, including three on Birch's first bomb. Birch and Katie Virtue extended the lead with RBI singles in the third, and Birch's two-run shot came in the sixth. Tre Sullivan and Silvius stroked two doubles apiece for the Owls, and Rylee Carleton earned the win by allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Alexa Gonzalex had two of SOU's eight hits with a run scored. Painter added a double, and Megan Scherer and Ruvalcaba had an RBI apiece. Baseball NO. 24 OREGON STATE 8, SAN JOSE STATE 2 : At Corvallis, Gabe Clark and Michael Howard hit back-to-back home runs in a six-run seventh inning for No. 24 Oregon State to help send the Beavers to a win over San Jose State at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Kevin Flemer spun 6 2/3 innings of two-hit baseball in the longest outing of his career, allowing one run with five strikeouts. While he didn’t get the win, he helped send the Beavers to their fifth consecutive victory as they prepare to face Big West Conference foe Cal Poly this weekend. Down 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, OSU (20-5) unleashed a six-run seventh inning with five runs being charged to San Jose State reliever Ross Slaney, who eventually took the loss to fall to 1-2. Jeff Hendrix tied the game with a run-scoring single. Trever Morrison then put OSU up for good with another run-scoring single. Both scored when Clark unleashed a three-run home run over the left field fence three batters later. Howard then hit a solo shot to make it 7-2 in favor of Oregon State. NO. 22 OREGON 12, UC RIVERSIDE 3 : At Riverside, Calif., No. 22 Oregon scored early and often against UC Riverside, cruising to a win over the Highlanders at The Plex. The Ducks swept the two-game series after beating UCR in extra innings on Tuesday. Oregon scored two runs in the first inning and added seven more in the third to build a 9-0 lead en route to the win. The Ducks got RBI singles from Mitchell Tolman and Josh Graham to take the first inning lead. Graham highlighted the seven-run third inning with a grand slam home run. Brandon Cuddy added a RBI single and Shaun Chase chipped in a two-RBI hit to account for the seven runs. UCR (10-15) added three runs in the bottom half of the third inning to cut the lead to 9-3, but UO (17-8) scored another run in fourth on a Graham RBI single, as well as runs in the seventh and ninth to lock up the win. Jacob Corn (2-0) picked up the win allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.
