The show continues today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mail Tribune / Bob Pennell Show abounds in home ideas By ANITA BURKE Mail Tribune Creating custom tabletop fountains to sell at home and garden shows was supposed to be a semi-retirement job for Tom and Judi Moody, of Buckley, Wash., a small town between Seattle and Tacoma. "We’ve never worked harder," Judi Moody said, of their seven years of traveling to home shows around the country. This weekend the couple’s business, Fabulous Fountains, was one of 150 booths at the Southern Oregon Fall Home Show at the Jackson County Expo. The show, sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Jackson County, features "anything for the home," said Judy Gauderman, the association’s executive vice president and home show organizer. The fall showcase of ideas and products for building, remodeling, decorating or landscaping is smaller than the association’s spring show, but Gauderman still expects it to draw about 7,000 people this weekend. The show opened Friday and continues today. A portion of the $2 admission will benefit ACCESS Inc., a local nonprofit social service agency, Gauderman said. Advertisement The show attracted vendors from as far away as Florida, as well as many local businesses and those from up and down the West Coast, she said. This was the Moodys’ first time at the Medford show, and their wares proved popular here, Judi Moody said. From toddlers drawn in by the sound and motion of the lighted fountains, many of which featured a rock sphere that spun in the flowing water, to senior citizens looking to add serenity to their home, everyone loves a fountain, she said. "There’s a little one now," she said, as a wide-eyed boy clutching a balloon swiveled his head to gaze at the rippling fountains as his mother whisked him from one display to the next. Tom Moody, an art major in college, hand-crafts copper leaves that form some fountains. Other fountains are assembled using stone, ceramics and glass that the Moodys track down from around the world. Prices range from around $30 to several hundred dollars for the most elaborate fountains. "I love to decorate," Judi Moody said. The couple travels the country selling their wares. Last year they toured the East Coast and the year before the Midwest. High gas prices have them working just the Interstate 5 corridor this year. "We have a motorhome and travel with two cats," she said. "We love meeting people and exchanging ideas." From gutter-cleaning systems to stained glass, sprinklers to home security, the show offered ideas aplenty for homeowners. "This is a good show for us," said Jim Powell, of Rogue Dynasty Inc., a Grants Pass importer and wholesaler who sells exclusively at home shows and bazaars. He did brisk business in Tiffany-style lamps and laser crystals, glass globes and blocks that contained three-dimensional images created by a computer-controlled laser.
