The boat with three men, all from Klamath County, got caught on a log midway between Rock Point and Valley of the Rogue State Park, just off the 700 block of Rogue River Highway, said Nicco Holt, a firefighter with Rogue River Rural Fire District No. 1. One man from the boat made his way to shore, but the other two weren’t comfortable plunging into the rapid current, he said. District 1’s swift-water rescue team went to help around 2:30 p.m. They called for Jackson County Fire District No. 4’s rescue boat, but the river was too shallow for the rescue boat to reach the snagged boat, Holt said. Rescuers tossed ropes to the stranded men so they could pull them through the swift but shallow water. Wearing life jackets and with ropes bound about them, the men were swept through a patch of rapids as the crews on the bank pulled them in. Holt said the water was only about 4 feet deep, but the current was powerful. Advertisement The men weren’t injured, but paramedics checked the pair over when they reached shore. The district can’t release the names of people its crews treat, so the men weren’t named in reports released after the rescue. Crews also tried to free the drift boat, but it remained lodged in midstream Thursday night with the current battering it, Holt said.
