Heather Marie Everman, 25, who is reportedly homeless, is being held in the Jackson County Jail on a second-degree assault charge. Her bail is set at $1 million, jail records show. The stabbing occurred around 8 p.m. at the park's ampitheater on the Medford Commons, adjacent to Lithia Motors corporate headquarters. Police said Everman stabbed a 24-year-old man she knows. The man was seated in the park with five other people, who all knew Everman, police reported. She approached the group, and, although no argument or altercation was reported, she stabbed the man in the lower back, a police news release today said. Others in the group tried to disarm her and one person punched her, knocking her to the ground, police said. The group hadn't disarmed her when officers arrived, but she dropped the knife when police order her to do so, the news release said. Both Everman and the man were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The man had non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Everman was injured when witnesses tried to disarm her, police said. Police said on their Facebook page that transient activity in the park has seen a recent increase, prompting the agency to step up patrols. Investigators haven't been able to determine a motive for Tuesday's attack. Medford Fire-Rescue and Mercy Flights also responded to the stabbing Tuesday night.
