Early-morning crash in Josephine County kills Grants Pass woman Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 15, 2015 at 5:14 PM Posted Jun. 15, 2015 at 5:14 PM » Social News Oregon State Police are continuing their investigation into a crash that killed a 27-year-old Grants Pass woman early Monday. According to OSP Sgt. Brandon Boice, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a 2006 Toyota RAV4, being operated by Steven R. Schurpf, Jr., 29, of Grants Pass was southbound on Azalea Drive near Ewe Creek Road when it failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle left the road onto the right shoulder and rolled several times. Schurpf's passenger, Tamera R. Dillard, 27, was ejected during the crash, according to an OSP news release. Dillard was pronounced dead at the scene. Schurpf had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Asante Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass and later was medically cleared and released to OSP custody with no injuries. Schurpf was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of manslaughter I, DUII and reckless driving, the release said. Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed are being investigated as factors in the crash. OSP was assisted at the scene by Rural Metro Fire and AMR medical.
