ORIGINAL STORY BELOW: Ashland police are seeking the public’s help in finding a 14-year-old girl, who was reported missing early this morning from her Ashland home. Annessa Moriarty is suspected of running away sometime between 1 and 6:15 a.m. today and may be a danger to herself, according to a Facebook post by her mother, Sabena Vaughan. Annessa is about five feet four inches tall and has shoulder-length brown hair and green eyes. She may be wearing glasses with peach frames and have an olive green backpack with her. She is believed to be riding a grey and black mountain bike with pink trim and pink handlebar grips. Around 12:30 a.m. today, Vaughan called police to report a prowler outside their home. Police arrived, identified the young man as a friend or boyfriend of Annessa’s and escorted him home, said Ashland police Sgt. Bob Smith. This morning, Vaughn found a “concerning” note from her daughter, indicating that she felt bad about sneaking out and that her friend had been caught earlier that morning, the Facebook post said. “(Annessa) left a note for her mother with statements that made us feel that she may not be in a good state of mind — angry, depressed and just not feeling good,” Smith said. “Nothing indicated that she had left with anybody or was meeting with anybody," he said. Police reached out to Annessa’s friends, including the young man and his mom, this morning, but they could not “give any insight as to her state of mind or where she would have gone,” Smith said. “She had a bicycle so she was mobile, but we don’t know where she might have gone,” he said, adding that some community members have searched local parks and bike trails, Emigrant Lake and a graveyard where Annessa and the young man would sometimes meet. "She can’t go that far on a bicycle so she’s in the area somewhere," Smith said. "We just don’t know where. We hope that once the info gets out there, it’ll narrow our search." Anyone who has seen Annessa or her bike or knows where she might be is asked to contact police dispatch at 541-776-7206.
