Ross reels in dwarf win WHITE CITY � Howie Ross won a clash of the mini titans late Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway. The Santa Rosa, Calif., driver took top honors when the Dwarf Car West Coast Nationals concluded, besting local favorite Jon DeBenedetti in the process. Ross, who won four races in preliminary action on Friday night, got the jump on DeBenedetti after a yellow flag and held off the Rogue River driver to take the checkered flag in the third leg of the national series. Ross and DeBenedetti were both winners in earlier national events this season, setting the stage for a final clash when the circuit concludes in California in October. In other action Saturday night, Dan Estremado remained hot in the winged modifieds, winning for a second straight week and for a fifth time on the season. Mark Wauge edged ahead of Bryan Poppa for the class lead, finishing second to Estremado while Poppa was third. The two started the night tied for the points lead. Estremado is the defending class champion. Frank Word III continued his winning ways in the pro stocks, taking his fifth checkered flag of the season in the feature and stretching his points lead. Saturday was the final of two nights of action for the weekend. The dwarfs were also in action Friday with DeBenedetti winning the feature event and Ross working his way to the feature with wins in four straight preliminaries. Also Friday, Patrick Lanigan took honors in the super trucks and Tracy Bradley in the mini stocks. Neither event awarded points. Racing continues Saturday night.
