Police: Burglary suspects left receipt behind Garland Brittain, left, and Dominique Brodd Friday Dec 9, 2016 at 11:23 AM Dec 9, 2016 at 11:59 AM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil A store rewards program receipt that fell out of a suspect's backpack during a recent west Medford burglary ended up rewarding detectives, who used it to track down a Josephine County man and his alleged accomplice, a 19-year-old Medford woman. The suspects' smash-and-grab happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Stewart Market, located at the corner of Stewart Avenue and Lozier Lane. Surveillance footage from the store showed a black 2010 Dodge Caliber pulling up and parking near the store. In the footage, a heavily concealed male and mask-wearing female smashed in the front door, walked in and began snatching up armfuls of cigarettes. "They're wanting to get this property and get out of there quick, so they're very frantic in their efforts," said Medford police Lt. Kerry Curtis. After a few minutes, the pair fled, leaving broken glass and dozens of cigarette packs on the floor in their wake. But an investigation showed something else got left behind, too: a receipt with the suspect's name from a store where he was a part of their rewards program. The name on the receipt was Garland Brittain, 32, who lives in the 600 block of Newt Gulch Road in Wilderville, according to court records. "I wouldn't say it's very common for us to get evidence in crimes like this," Curtis said. A Central Point police officer found an unoccupied SUV believed to have been used in the crime, and Medford police said they found more evidence inside that tied Brittain to the theft. Police said they arrested Brittain "as he made an appearance at the courthouse on an unrelated matter" earlier this week. Court records show Brittain has an open methamphetamine possession case. Police also arrested 19-year-old Dominique Brodd at a residence on Progress Drive in Medford. Court records show Brodd has no criminal history in Oregon.
