The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Friday that's in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Monday for the Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyous, including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake. Snow accumulation during the storm will be 2 to 4 feet above 5,000 feet, with locally higher amounts up to 6 feet possible," the warning said. Meteorologist Ryan Sandler said the weekend forecast contains a one-two punch for parts of southwestern Oregon. It will start with a strong cold front that will move into the area midday Saturday, bringing heavy snow in the mountains. Portions of highways 66, 140 and 62 could see multiple feet of snow by Monday. "Heavy snow will cause significant travel impacts at times, with snow-covered and potentially impassable roads and very low visibility due to falling and blowing snow," the warning said. The storm also will bring steady rain on the valley floor, with about 2 inches expected to fall in Jackson County by Monday and up to a foot pouring down in spots closer to the coast. "The greater impacts will be seen in Coos, Curry, Josephine and Siskiyou counties, with rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches through Monday morning," a weather service bulletin said. Weather officials said the rain could lead to flooding for coastal rivers. The impact would be felt farther inland, too. "If we end up getting 2 inches here in Medford, we'll have water on the roads, ponding on the roads. That's a possibility, too," Sandler said. Rain is expected to continue Sunday, joined by some west-northwest winds. "This could be one of those a-little-more-than-unusual storms where we have both going on at the same time," Sandler said.
