Spring basketball league to begin play in April Plans are in the works to launch a spring basketball league for men and women of all ages. A variety of leagues are planned for adult men and women and for high school and middle school players. Games will be played at local high school gyms. The starting date is Saturday, April 7. Phoenix baseball-softball camp set for March 26-28 The 14th annual Phoenix Pirate Baseball-Softball Camp will be March 26-28 at Hagler-James Park. Girls and boys ages 5-8 will go from 9:30 a.m. to noon and those ages 9 to 14 will work from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Cost is $25. If it rains, the camp will be moved to the high school gym. Wilcox, the North Medford High pole vaulter who suffered a severe concussion during a vaulting mishap Thursday, was expected to be released from Rogue Valley Medical Center Saturday evening or early today, Black Tornado coach Mark Hodges said. Wilcox hit his head on secondary padding in the pole vault pit after making a bad plant and veering off course during a jump at Bowerman Field. He suffered a severe concussion and also a cracked collarbone, Hodges said, adding that Wilcox hopes to return to vaulting within a month. MDA golf tourney registration under way Registration for the sixth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association golf tournament at Stewart Meadows is under way at Pier 21 Tavern, 841 Stewart Ave. The five-player scramble tourney begins at 9 a.m. on April 8. YMCA to start hoop program for PeeWees Rogue Valley YMCA will put on a PeeWee basketball program for first- and second-graders. Registration begins Monday. Signups being taken for women�s hoops leagues Signups are being taken for a high school girls and women�s spring basketball league that is being sponsored by the Rogue Valley YMCA. Anyone interested in playing should sign up at the Rogue Valley Family YMCA in Medford. Cost is $25 for members and $50 for non-members. Rosters must be complete by March 25 and games begin on April 2. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings at South Medford High.
