The crash on the South Fork of Little Butte Creek Road at Lake Creek Road was discovered and reported to the Jackson County sheriff’s department about 8 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff’s department Sgt. Dace Cochran said the time of the accident was unknown, but both the body of Cristy Ann Cash, 33, of the 3000 block of Cody Street, and the engine of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero she drove were cold when discovered. An investigation revealed that Cash was driving west on the South Fork of Little Butte Creek Road when she failed to negotiate a right-hand, downhill curve. Her vehicle left the road on the inside of the curve, then crossed back across both lanes and shot off the edge of the roadway. The vehicle was airborne for about 35 feet, Cochran said. It landed on the right front side and tumbled end over end. When the tailgate hit the ground, the rear window shattered. Cash, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the the vehicle and struck some rocks, Cochran said. Both air bags deployed, but without a seatbelt in place, they were ineffective, he said. Investigation into the accident continues, pending a report by the county’s medical examiner. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives will handle funeral arrangements.
