We've done Disneyland and Las Vegas, so we're looking for something else. We're budgeting about a $1,000 for the flight. What kinds of ideas do you have for us, giving us bang for our buck? — Tony S., Eagle Point That's not exactly up our alley here at the stately Taj Mahal on Fir Street, but we tracked down Brian Mein over at Caveman Travel. He sure has a lot of questions for you. Do you want warmth and sunshine? How far do you want to travel? Do you want to lie around on the beach or hike in the pines? Here are some ideas he gathered, let's see if one resonates:  There are a bunch of small cruises in the Puget Sound area, featuring ships holding 80 to 100 people. They tour the outer islands in the San Juan Islands and Victoria. Small ships.  New Orleans, he said, is a great place for a couple who have three or four days. There are lots of little things to do, and people there for the most part are friendly. "Like any city, he said. "You want to stay out of the wrong places." San Diego in late October is a pretty good deal, going down to the beach and zoo; and Seattle is fun town for a couple of days. If you want to be a little more adventurous, the big cruise liners are repositioning their ships from the Northwest to Southern California. That means you can get a cruise along the West Coast between Vancouver and Los Angeles for a pretty good rate. If you're serious about avoiding crowds, you don't want to go to Orlando, Florida, that's the most popular fall vacation venue, just ahead of Vegas and Maui, according to Travel Leaders Group. Other popular fall vacation destinations, and they all seem to be crowded places, are New York City, Honolulu, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Boston.
