Challengers beat Antlers in playoff Cascade Christian got off to a 10-0 lead and never let Bonanza get untracked in a Southern Cascade League boys basketball playoff game Tuesday. The Challengers, who defeated Bonanza for the second time in four days, registered a 75-52 victory over the Antlers at Superior gym. Cascade Christian (13-10) will play next at Gilchrist, the SCL runner-up which defeated Lost River, 80-58, Tuesday. They meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, with the winner going to state. The winner will play a seeding game at SCL champion St. Mary�s Saturday. Cascade and Gilchrist split a pair of regular-season games. The Challengers capitalized on the strong play of Stan Kelley and Jordan Ferrell inside. The senior forwards combined for 32 points and 17 rebounds. "They were a factor on the boards," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. "The first time we played them we were giving up second and third shots. This time we did a great job of holding them to one." Kelley and Jordan benefited from the unselfish play of sophomore point guard Mychal Sha, who had eight points and seven assists. "He (Sha) was penetrating and dishing off to our big guys down low," said Morse. The Challengers held a comfortable 34-18 halftime lead. Senior guard Chad Harvey stepped up in the second half when Bonanza made a push. Harvey scored 11 of his 13 points after intermission. At one point Bonanza cut the Challengers� margin to 12 points in the third quarter, but Harvey converted three field goals on three straight possessions to bump the lead back to 19. Senior guard Blake McCormick provided the Challengers a nice boost off the bench with 12 points. "The key was we shut down their transition game and we had a lot of easy fast-break points," said Morse.
