The National Weather Service predicts a wet, windy storm system will blow into the region Friday from the Pacific. Forecasters expect strong winds and heavy rain Friday afternoon into Saturday for parts of the region — especially over the Oregon Coast and across areas east of the Cascades. Winds in those areas are expected to reach speeds of 45 mph, with 60 mph gusts. Colder air is also expected to drop snow levels below Rogue Valley passes Saturday, bringing an expected 6 to 10 inches at Crater Lake, with up to 8 inches at Diamond Lake and a few inches on Interstate 5's Siskiyou Summit south of Ashland. Mount Ashland is expected to see about 3 inches, with most of the snowfall expected to occur on Saturday, forecasters said. It'll be a welcome mat for those celebrating Mt. Ashland Ski Area's First Snows Mountain Blessing event, which kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, on the mountain. For the Rogue Valley floor, the forecast is somewhat tempered, typical during heavier winter storms that affect the coastal areas and areas east of the Cascades more directly. "We're not going to see the winds that most areas would see," said NWS meteorologist Ryan Sandler. "It'll be breezy, but it's not going to be a strong wind. "By the end of the weekend, there'll probably be a lot of leaves to pick up. That's probably the biggest impact for the valley." Some rain is predicted in Jackson County, with about half an inch expected to fall Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of about 50 degrees Friday, with overnight lows dipping to the mid- to upper-30s over the weekend. Ashland news Mt. Ashland First Snows Mountain Blessing event coming up.  SMS:  Netheader:  Mt. Ashland will welcome winter snows to the hillsides at their First Snows Mountain Blessing event, which kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, on the mountain. The event is open to anyone. Per a weather forecast from the National Weather Service, snow will likely be falling on the slopes during the event. Snowfall is expected all weekend. The ski park has also recently released a first look at its new logo, part of its ongoing re-branding process. Mt. Ashland officials say they have been working on the new design with Lithia Motors.
