SOU picks up softball victory HAYWARD, Calif. � The ups and downs of SOU�s softball campaign after a two decade layoff took a turn for the better Tuesday. Southern Oregon banged out 24 hits in 12 innings as the Raiders snapped a five-game losing streak with a 9-0, 9-2 sweep of Patten College at Stanley Field. The Raiders (7-6) stole 15 of 16 bases in the opener and kept the bases full with 13 hits. "We were able to hit-and-run today," Southern Oregon coach James Gravelle said. "We hit the ball in the gaps." Angie Chaplin went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs, Angie Varnado was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, while Latisha Inget was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Varnado had four stolen bases, while Inget and Stacey Marshall had three apiece. In the second game, Chaplin was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Varnado and Lisa Aitchison had two hits and scored two runs each. Aitchison had two RBIs. SOU travels across the bay to Belmont Thursday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against College of Notre Dame.
