Paroled sex abuser arrested again A Medford man who was released on parole last year after sexually abusing boys has been arrested again on sex charges involving two teen-age victims. Michael Dee Sheffield, 38, of 611 W. 11th St., No. 5, was arrested Thursday after police served a search warrant at his apartment to look for obscene videos and photos. He was arrested on two counts of furnishing obscene materials to minors, and one count each of sexual abuse in the first and second degree, sodomy in the first and third degree, second-degree kidnapping, coercion and parole violation. He's being held in the Jackson County Jail without bail. Police were tipped off after an 18-year-old boy told police that Sheffield, whom he knew, used physical force to have sexual contact with him and prevent him from leaving the apartment. The other victim is a 14-year-old boy who also knew Sheffield. The incidents allegedly occurred within the last two weeks, Lt. Tim George of the Medford Police Department said. "We're not done with this one," George said. "We believe that there will be additional victims discovered." Sheffield was on parole for kidnap and sex abuse in the first-degree, George said. He was released in October 1997 after serving about six years in prison, said Sheffield's parole officer, Sam Olsen. A community notification published when Sheffield was released said he'd kidnapped and taken boys to a rural area of Jacksonville where he sexually abused them. He was designated as a high-risk predatory sex offender. Under terms of his parole, he was to attend treatment, take regular polygraph tests, and not to use alcohol or have any contact with minors. Olsen said Sheffield had been doing well in treatment, was taking polygraph tests, was reporting as required and had a job dealing with phone sales. There was "no indication that he was not doing what he's supposed to do," said the parole officer, adding that he hadn't had complaints from Sheffield's neighbors. Anyone with additional information about the investigation is asked to call Medford police Det. Ray Leach at 774-2234. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1998, Medford, Oregon USA
