Richard Allen Cadwallader, 56, remains jailed on four counts of bank robbery from crimes he allegedly committed in April and May, according to the Associated Press. In addition to Medford, police allege Cadwallader was responsible for robberies in Albany and Eugene, officials said. "We have certainly named him as a suspect in our case," Medford police Lt. Tim George said. "We will possibly pursue a case against him once they are done with him in California." Cadwallader was arrested in Red Bluff, Calif., on June 28 on unrelated charges. According to the FBI, a handwritten note demanding cash was found in his pocket. On April 21, the suspect walked into the Sterling Savings Bank at 620 Stewart Avenue and produced a note saying he was armed. No patrons were at the bank when the man, described as a white adult, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 165 pounds, then ran off heading east across the parking lot closest to Stewart Avenue. Witnesses said he appeared to be between 40 and 50 years old and was wearing a white ball cap. Medford Police Lt. Mike Moran said the man seemed to limp as he left the bank. Police established a large perimeter encompassing several blocks, but could not trap the suspect. Heavy foot and vehicle traffic in the area kept a police dog from finding a scent trail. Detectives worked with two FBI agents inside the bank after the robbery. "We won't comment on any of the particulars of the case until Cadawallader is back in Oregon," George said. They looked at surveillance video in hopes of gathering useful images of the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call police at 774-2238.
