The district board selected Kirk Gibson, now principal of Central Point Elementary, to head the high school after Lynch retires in June. Crater Assistant Principal Todd Bloomquist will become principal at Central Point Elementary. Mike Meunier, an assistant principal at Scenic Middle School, will become an assistant principal at Crater. The district plans to hire a new assistant principal at Scenic. Lynch will retire at the end of the school year after 25 years with the district. Since 1972 she has worked as a health and physical education teacher, athletic director, dean and principal at elementary, middle and high schools. She has been principal at Crater for four years. "It’s been a great experience with kids K-12," she said. Advertisement A Crater graduate, she expects to stay close to the school, volunteering to help with registration and attending extracurricular activities. This is Gibson’s 19th year with the district. He started at Central Point as a middle school teacher and became a dean handling discipline at Hanby Middle School in 1994. He worked in the district office and became principal at Central Point Elementary three years ago. "I love working as a principal and I’m excited to be working with the staff and students at Crater," he said. Bloomquist has worked at Crater as an assistant principal for four years. He previously taught English and theater at a private school in Washington and at South Medford High School. He said his background has shown him the importance of students gaining reading skills early and he’s eager to help teachers who work with young children. Meunier has worked at the district 13 years. He taught elementary school, spent three years as a middle school administrator and served as softball coach for 11 years, he said. While he’s looking forward to new opportunities at the high school, it’s also a homecoming for the 1984 Crater graduate. "I’m going to my 20th reunion this summer and I’ll have to tell everyone I’m still in the same place," Meunier joked.
