Lighten Up Medford pastor: No lesson when nearby bush caught fire The half-burned bush on the south side of First Presbyterian Church in Medford was not a theological object lesson. The fire "just happened," the Rev. Joyce DeGraaff said Sunday of the Thursday afternoon incident. DeGraaff was the first to notice the smoke, while she was sitting in her office. After a look out the door onto Eighth Street, she attacked the burning bush with a fire extinguisher. The fire didn't go out, so she called 911 and waited until a fire engine arrived. "The first fireman off extended his hand and suggested we form a circle around the bush to see if we hear the voice of God," DeGraaff said. "I looked up at the other firemen and asked, `Which one of you is Moses?' "They were just delighted. They put out the fire. However, the entire bush was not consumed."
