Terry Longshore: The director of percussion of Southern Oregon University's Department of Music will present the world premiere of Mark Applebaum’s “Composition Machine No. 1,″ for solo performer, at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the Music Recital Hall on the SOU campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Longshore will play various acoustic and electronic percussion instruments. Applebaum is an associate professor of music composition and theory at Stanford University. Children's Halloween Parade: Ashland's annual Halloween celebration for kids will kick off from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, with a Halloween story time at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. The kids parade will begin at 3:30 p.m., following East Main Street to the Ashland Plaza. Kids can trick-or-treat at downtown businesses, get photographs taken at the Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St., and get their faces painted in front of Wells Fargo Bank, 67 E. Main St. Look for live entertainment along the way by Samba Like It Hot and Intention Dance Zombies. Mad Science!, an exhibit from ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, will be on Oak Street. There will be a monster flash mob and a spooky storytelling party at Tree House Books, 15 N. Main St., and ghoulish fun and activities at Paddington Station, 125 E.
