Two arrested, toddler removed from suspected drug RV Sarah Christine Masters Friday Apr 27, 2018 at 4:25 PM Apr 27, 2018 at 5:55 PM Nick Morgan Mail Tribune @mtcrimebeat Two people were arrested and a 2-year-old child was taken into Department of Human Services custody Thursday after a domestic dispute call at a store parking lot led police to find deplorable conditions and signs of drug activity inside a dilapidated motorhome. Matthew Dan Stienike, 36, and Sarah Christine Masters, 30, each face misdemeanor charges of possessing methamphetamine following an arrest during a stop of their RV at the Medford Target parking lot on Crater Lake Highway. At about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Stienike was behind the wheel of the motorhome when Medford police pulled it over after receiving several complaints about a man and woman fighting in the RV, according to documents filed by Medford police. Officers contacted DHS after finding a 2-year-old girl, drug paraphernalia and unsanitary conditions inside the RV, police said. The RV was leaking sewage, according to police, and the floors were covered in moldy wet clothes and rotten food. Steinike and Masters were “covered” in open sores, police said. After impounding the RV — police said Stienike was driving while suspended and driving without insurance — police allegedly found two sets of electronic scales that had meth residue, along with a rolled-up piece of tinfoil with a usable amount of meth and two meth pipes. “One of the scales was concealed inside the child’s baby bag,” an affidavit filed by Medford police said. DHS placed the child in foster care, court documents said. Steinike and Masters were each arraigned Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court on the misdemeanor drug-possession charges. Medford police arrested the pair on allegations of first-degree child neglect, but as of Friday charges had not been filed. Court records show no criminal records for either in Oregon. Circuit Judge Lorenzo Mejia set bail at $20,000 with enhanced conditions upon release, such as regular check-ins. Masters was released from jail Friday because of overcrowding.
