South center out with sprained ankle South Medford�s boys basketball team was dealt a temporary setback earlier this week when center Eric Fiegi sprained his right ankle during Monday afternoon�s practice. X-rays dispelled early fear that the 6-foot-8 junior had broken a bone, which would have sidelined one of the Panthers� key threats for the season. "The doctor told me it was just a bad strain," Fiegi said Wednesday evening. "I�m supposed to stay off it until it doesn�t hurt to walk and then things will go pretty quick." South Medford (3-1) will get its first taste of life without its top center when the Panthers journey to Northern California tonight to play in the Red Bluff Daily News Holiday Classic. The Panthers play Enterprise of Redding at 8:30 p.m., then play either El Camino of San Diego or Red Bluff in the second round. Fiegi has averaged 20.2 points per game, with a high of 29 points against South Eugene. He�s averaged eight rebounds, with a high of 10 against Mountain View, and averaged three blocked shots. "I haven�t got a clue how long it will be," South Medford coach Dennis Murphy said Tuesday afternoon. "It could be five or six or eight or 10 games. "I�m not sure how big of a deal this is right now. If we were 15-1 right now, that might be a different story." The Panthers won�t begin Southern Oregon Conference play until Jan. 2 at Roseburg. "We have to hope that Eric is recovered by then," Murphy said. Murphy said he wasn�t sure if senior David Burnett or sophomore Boomer Marshall would replace Fiegi in the line-up.
