Raiders fall shy in conference road game Raider roundup SALEM -- Cassee Steed and Kylie Miller took turns lighting up the Southern Oregon University women's basketball team Thursday night. Steed poured in all 14 of her points in the first half but played only two minutes after the break before fouling out. Miller stepped up to take over in Steed's absence with 20 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to lead Western Baptist to a 79-71 Cascade Conference win over the 20th-ranked Raiders. SOU rallied from a 43-36 halftime deficit to tie things up with a 7-0 run to start the final half. "We played pretty well in the second half," said Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett. "We actually were able to take the lead a couple of times but just couldn't sustain it toward the end." Miller jump-started Western Baptist's stagnant offense with three consecutive hoops to break a 48-48 tie before the Raiders ended the drought with 12:20 remaining. SOU could get no closer than two the rest of night as Miller scored seven of Western's final eight points to close things out. Lauren Mohan and Melissa England led the Raiders (13-11, 4-5 conference) with 19 and 13 points, respectively. "If we could have played the way we did in the second half of tonight's game in Friday's game then we would have won," said Huyett referring to Friday's 61-55 overtime loss to Concordia. "Overall, we hit the shots we needed to get back in the game but they made some big shots and free throws at the end."
