Timothy Pierre Holmes, 33, agreed to the sentence in May after pleading guilty and "no contest" to charges of attempted first-degree sexual penetration with a foreign object, third-degree sex abuse and coercion. Friday's sentence in Jackson County Circuit Court came after a pre-sentence investigation, standard in sex abuse cases. "You were in a position of trust, and you violated that," said Circuit Court Judge Ray White. "A lot of kids looked up to you. It puts all teachers and coaches and educators ... in a bad light." Holmes forced his hands down a 15-year-old girl's pants on two occasions at the high school last year. The abuse took place once in Holmes' office and again in a concession stand. Both times, the girl, who was late for school, was under the impression that Holmes would give her a hall pass to get to class. The victim did not appear at Friday's hearing. Before his May 26, 2005, arrest and June 28 resignation, Holmes provided security for students and served as an assistant football and track coach. News of the crime divided campus opinion of Holmes, said Matt Chancellor, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. Many students liked Holmes, but police said they talked to many other girls who said Holmes made inappropriate comments about their clothing and sexually propositioned them.
