Oregon man's extradition postponed By BILL VARBLE Illinois authorities on Friday continued their efforts to link a Southern Oregon man to the death of his traveling companion last week. Charles Evans, 44, whose residence is listed as near Selma, is being held in Virginia on drug charges. But Illinois authorities believe that Evans, 44, dumped the body of his friend Jack Dee Moore, 53, on a lonely road near Bloomington, Ill., late last week. Evans and Moore are believed to have lived together in a remote cabin near Selma and to have been on a trip in a motor home from there to Radford, Va., when Moore was shot. An extradition hearing for Evans originally scheduled for Friday in Washington County, Va., was postponed, a sheriff's spokesman said. In Illinois, a number of people have come forward to say they saw the 1977 Dodge Tioga mini-motor home in which Evans and Moore were traveling. Pictures of the motor home have been widely circulated in the county, said McLean County Sheriff Dave Owen. "We're getting tips regarding sightings," he said Friday. "We've gotten 10 phone calls today." Investigators are hoping to use the information to build a timeline for Evans and the motor home before and after Moore's body was dumped between two cornfields near Interstate 74. Evans is being held without bail in Washington County on drug charges after sheriff's deputies found small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana in the motor home. He is wanted in Illinois on felony charges of concealing a homicide. No murder charge has been filed. Evans was arrested in western Virginia early Sunday after a friend of Moore's in Radford told police Evans told him on the phone that an intruder had killed Moore and that Evans had then killed the intruder. The informant later reported Evans said he dumped the intruder's body and was continuing on the trip with Moore's body. The last call came from Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday night. "The timeline on sightings will help us put the pieces together," Owen said. Illinois authorities aren't ruling out the possibility that Moore was killed elsewhere. "The only thing we're certain of is the body was dumped here," the sheriff said.
