Maybe it’s a quiet picnic spot, a historical site or a backcountry road; whatever the case, email us a 300- to 500-word story about it, plus directions and pictures if you have them, to Mail Tribune features editor Dave Smigelski at [email protected] . » Social News Eighteen miles up the Greensprings Highway, we discovered a unique spot by the side of the road, the Green Springs Inn. Most of us had never been there. I had been by there once looking for an art studio just past the the Inn. I thought then, "I need to enjoy a nice dinner there." Within two weeks a gift certificate came from a local magazine as a thank-you gift. Delighted, I called three other couples, and we were on our way. The drive had breathtaking views, and the eight of us chatted and searched along the way for rare plants and wildlife. We were all amazed by the view as we looked back over our beloved town of Ashland. We each chose a different entree. My choice was the chicken marsala. Others' choices included grassfed sirloin steak and seafood pasta.The chicken melted in my mouth. Everyone's dinner was enjoyable. After dinner, we chose three different types of homemade pies and sampled each one until the plates were practically licked clean. We hadn't spent much money with the gift certificate. The owner knew that and came out to greet us anyway, asking if we liked our food and the live music. We all shouted we had and told him we would return again soon. A true treasure in the woods! An enjoyable drive. We were hoping to see a little snow, and we crunched our shoes over some in the ample parking lot. It turned out to be an excellent evening. I could almost hear that old Jim Croce song from the '70s "I Got A Name" — "Like the pine trees lining the winding road, I got a name, I got a name." Well, I've got a name of a place for a quiet evening and a stroll around cabins with breathtaking views. Lois Jorgensen lives in Ashland.
