"We're rivals," said Prospect coach Marcy Gallagher. "At times it gets pretty nerve-racking. The girls have been working extremely hard since they went to camp this summer. They set goals every week, and one of their goals was to beat Butte Falls. We're in first and they're in second, so we knew this would give us some breathing room if we could get past them. Everybody's doing their jobs and not making silly mistakes." Prospect, which got a boost with the return of Candi Lewis from an ankle injury, is 9-1, 8-1 MVL. Butte Falls dropped to 5-4, 5-3. Lewis, who hadn't played in 10 days, had eight kills and two blocks. Caiti Lewis added five kills and a block, Maeghan Scriven had four kills and was 9-for-9 serving, Megan Shallenberger had seven assists and was 13-for-13 serving, Cathryn Anderson had 14 assists and Lindsay Verret had six kills and three aces. Advertisement Butte Falls was led by Kyndi Sutfin's eight kills and five blocks. Brianna Wright had four blocks and Jossalyn Burg five assists. "They're a scrappy team," said Loggers coach Ronnie Burg of the Cougars. "They cover the floor really well. We just made some silly mistakes and unforced errors. We just weren't moving tonight." Skyline PHOENIX 3, ILLINOIS 1 — At Cave Junction, after a rough start, Phoenix shut down Illinois Valley in the final game to win the match, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14 Sarah Buell piled up 15 assists and Jillian Mortenson led the Pirates (2-3 Skyline Conference) with six kills. Phoenix's back row of Talia Engle and Annie Summers each notched 16 digs. ROGUE RIVER 3, NORTH VALLEY 2 — At Rogue River, Kaitlin Hoffman had 14 kills and seven digs to lead Rogue River in the Skyline match, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-9. Chelsea Westlake added 11 kills and six blocks, Jessica Miller had 10 digs and 32 assists and Miranda Berry notched 12 digs. HENLEY 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 0 — At Murphy, Hidden Valley battled top-ranked Henley before falling in three games in a Skyline match, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15. Megan Swanson protected the net with 18 blocks for Hidden Valley, which got seven kills, five blocks and 12 digs from Channel Smith. Amanda Berry, who suffered a leg injury last weekend in the Mazama Invitational, stepped up with 21 digs for the Mustangs (12-5, 4-1 Skyline). Hidden Valley's Heather Wicks added 11 digs, five kills and three blocks. Southern Cascade CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, LOST RIVER 0 — Cascade Christian, which moved into a tie for first with Portland Christian in the Class 2A state rankings, cruised to a 25-8, 25-17, 25-6 victory at The Pavilion. The Challengers (11-3, 5-0 SCL) used a diverse offense, spreading 32 kills between seven attackers. Cascade had 14 service aces and 26 digs. Senior Melissa Gmur had a team-high eight kills to go with 11 assists and four aces for Cascade. Junior setter Erika Thorpe added five kills, 14 assists and five digs. ST. MARY'S 3, CHILOQUIN 0 — At Chiloquin, Melissa Lass was 16-for-16 serving for St. Mary's, including five aces and nine straight points to close the second game, as the Crusaders rolled, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18. Lass also led the Crusaders (12-8, 2-3 SCL) with 14 kills and 12 digs. St. Mary's had its best effort from the service line this season, going 71-for-73 with 14 aces. Facing a 9-all tie in the third game, Danelle Shubat and Claire Crawley came of the bench for St. Mary's and each had a pair of kills during two different four-point Crusader runs.
