Mail Tribune 100: Oct. 7, 1916 Friday Oct 7, 2016 at 12:01 AM Oct. 7, 1916 CHAMBERLAIN AT VINING THEATER ASHLAND, MONDAY United States Senator George E. Chamberlain will speak in the Vining theater in Ashland Monday evening, October 9 at 8 o'clock. He will make a direct appeal in behalf of the policies of President Wilson. This will be Senator Chamberlain's initial speech in Oregon. He will appear at Medford on Tuesday evening, October 10, and from there visit the towns throughout western Oregon in rotation. Local democrats are perfecting arrangements to make the senator's visit here a notable one in party annals and anticipate a record-breaking attendance. Everybody is invited. Come early in order that there may be no interruption as to a prompt beginning of the speech. LOCAL AND PERSONAL The public library is able to make use of an apprentice and will be glad to confer with anyone who is interested. The opportunity would be especially attractive to a girl of high school education, who has it in mind to take university work or library training later. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Carnahan left Saturday morning for Blue Ledge mine, of which Mr. Carnahan is superintendent. With them went a small crew of men who will be added to the force actively pushing development work on the properties. The new impetus given to development follows a visit to the mine by D.C. Brown, the present manager of the Towne interests owners of the mine. St.Mary's academy was the scene of a very pleasant reunion last Wednesday evening, the occasion being its annual opening assembly, given to the girls of the high school, the seven and eighth grades, to greet the old pupils and welcome the new. A few of the alumnae were also present. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing in the auditorium, prettily decorated in ferns and asters. Dainty refreshments were served during the evening. Before ending, the enthusiastic young ladies planned other gatherings for coming months. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon C. Giffen and son of California are in Medford today. They have purchased a ranch near Trail, where they expect to make their home permanently.
