SKYLINE VOLLEYBALL Chieftains regain winning form, corral Mustangs in two games MURPHY -- After a disappointing loss to Phoenix on Tuesday, the Rogue River volleyball team needed a win to maintain its fourth-place position in the Skyline Conference standings. The Chieftains delivered with a 15-6, 15-9 victory over winless Hidden Valley on Thursday. "I thought we played well coming off the loss to Phoenix," said Rogue River coach Briana Grieve. "It was nice to bounce back with a win." The Chieftains trailed 7-5 in the second game before mounting a rally for the win. Brittany Artoff finished off Hidden Valley from the service line with the final three points. Overall, Artoff was a perfect 8-for-8 serving while Kelly Simmons connected on 13 serves in as many attempts with three aces. "They (Hidden Valley) had a lot of problems with serve-receive," said Grieve. "But they managed to stay with us for a while in both games." Cheryl Jiles jump-started Rogue River in the first game, serving three straight points as the Chiefs pulled out to an 8-3 lead. Jennifer Kay delivered an ace for the game-winner as the Chieftains improved to 5-3 in the Skyline Conference. "We were a little slow getting started in both games," said Grieve. Rebecca Grinde had six digs while senior setter Jiles had seven for Rogue River. LAKEVIEW 16-15, PHOENIX 14-9 -- At Lakeview, freshman setter Megan Albertson turned in her best performance of the season for Lakeview in its Skyline Conference win. Albertson had seven kills, 20 assists and three blocks for the Honkers, who improved to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in league play. Lakeview took a 6-2 lead in the first game behind Kristi Albertson, who served points two through six. Phoenix climbed back to tie the game at 14, but Jamie Ruda closed it out for the Honkers with two kills. Phoenix took a brief 9-8 lead in the second game but Lakeview slowly took the game over. Francis Hartman had six kills and Kristi Albertson chipped in with five. HENLEY 15-15, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2-2 -- At Cave Junction, Henley ran its Skyline Conference record to 8-0 by romping past Illinois Valley.
