Kinney sets record with a 71 at RVCC Apr 04, 2000 12:00 AM A A Kinney sets record with a 71 at RVCC Tai Kinney shot a course-record, 2-under-par 71 Monday in an all-Southern Oregon Conference golf tournament at the Rogue Valley Country Club. She's a very consistent golfer for us, said first-year North Medford coach Tim Sam. She's so highly motivated. I've gone out in the off-season and seen her practicing her putting and hitting balls. You just don't see too many kids with the drive to improve that she has. Kinney finished with a 36 on the front nine and eclipsed that mark on the back nine with a 35. It sure is nice to walk into a coaching job and have someone like her on the team, said Sam. She has a good idea of what she wants, and she goes out and does it. There's not much instruction that needs to go towards her. Grants Pass took first overall with a team score of 364. Roseburg finished second at 371 and South Medford third with a 386. North ended up fourth with a 426. The Cavers' Johnna Nealy finished seven strokes behind Kinney with a 78, and South's Abby Fowler took third with an 81.
