Good grief, why doesn’t our Medford airport receive the same equipment, as our fog-delayed flights overly qualify us to acquire landing systems here! — Margaret B., Medford Can you move mountains, Margaret? If so, maybe you could correct our conundrum in Medford. Bern Case, Medford airport director, says we have exactly the same equipment that Eugene has. However, Medford’s lovely views of mountains mean that planes have to have 1,300 feet of visibility per Federal Aviation Administration regulations. In Eugene, where mountains aren’t a problem, the visibility can be as little as 600 feet. Advertisement If we didn’t have the special equipment in Medford the minimum visibility would be 2,300 feet. Planes have to have special equipment to use the 1,300-feet minimum, and that varies. Many large carriers’ planes do have it.
