Honkers eke out win over Pirates TALENT � The arm of Carl Fairburn plus multiple errors by Phoenix added up to an 8-7 Skyline Conference victory for Lakeview at Hagler-James Park on Tuesday. Fairburn pitched all seven innings for Lakeview, striking out 11 and walking only two batters. Travis Dunlap countered his pitching foe with six strikeouts in seven innings of work for the Pirates (7-4, 5-1 Skyline). What Dunlap and company couldn�t overcome, however, were eight errors that led to seven Lakeview runs. "The errors played a big part in the game," Phoenix coach Joe Hagler said. "It was an ugly game. It was the worst defensive play I�ve seen in the 22 years I�ve been here." In the fourth inning Phoenix was able to take a 6-5 lead off a bases-loaded triple by Eric Kessler. For the game Kessler went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. But in the fifth the Pirates committed two errors, leading to two runs, and the Honkers took the lead back for good. The Pirates had another chance in the seventh inning with Jake Mahon on third and only one out. But Fairburn struck out the final two batters to seal the win. Fairburn also went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double, and scored two runs. Joe Havely went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored for the Honkers. David Hoel and Jed Rowden each went 2-for-4 in the opener for Butte Falls (5-3, 2-0 Dist. 6), while Jon Slager and Raymond Novarro each had two hits for Chiloquin. Isaac Stephenson allowed only two hits in the five-inning nightcap and also went 2-for-2 with three runs. Hoel drove in five runs while Rowden went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
