Lost River downs scrappy Challengers LOST RIVER -- Cascade Christian made five-time defending Southern Cascade League champion Lost River work for its yardage and points Saturday, but the Raiders had enough firepower to post a 21-7 victory. Justin Carter and Lucas Fairfield scored rushing touchdowns and Eric Beasley hit Josh McCollam with a 23-yard touchdown pass as Lost River improved to ?-? in the SCL and ?-? overall. Trailing 14-0 at halftime, Cascade Christian cut its deficit to 14-7 in the third period when Stan Kelly hit Jordan Ferrell on a 3-yard touchdown pass. Will VanderStoel added the PAT kick. Fairfield's 19-yard run in the fourth period provided Lost River some breathing room. The Raiders hurt their cause by committing 10 penalties for 75 yards. Cascade Christian was penalized only once for 11 yards. Lost River registered 228 yards on the ground and 304 yards in total offense. Cascade Christian had 164 yards rushing and 20 yards passing. Brian Prins led the Challenger ground attack with 50 yards on 16 carries. MARY'S 14 -- At Gilchrist, St. Mary's gift-wrapped a Southern Cascade League win for the Grizzlies with seven turnovers. St. Mary's fumbled six times and lost five -- one leading directly to the first Gilchrist touchdown -- while quarterback Tracy Terrall threw a pair of interceptions. The turnovers negated a 280-233 advantage St. Mary's had in total offense. Matt DeYoung put Gilchrist on the scoreboard, scooping up a fumble and rambling 40 yards to paydirt. DeYoung jaunted 15 yards for another score as Gilchrist took a 13-0 lead at the half. DeYoung hauled in a 40-yard pass from Adam Ernst as the Grizzlies extended their advantage to 23-0 in the third quarter. St. Mary's scored twice in the fourth quarter when Alex Duncan sped 27 yards for one score and Terrall ran 12 for another. Duncan finished with 65 yards on eight carries.
