The recently built extension of McAndrews Road across Foothills Road has created an area where these two roads meet, where water collects and stagnates. Has anything been done to drain this water, or otherwise take care of this perfect breeding place for mosquitoes? — George S., Medford Well, George, it can’t be drained. According to the Medford Public Works Department folks, that pond at McAndrews and Foothills is actually a constructed wetland. There was a wetland in that area before the East McAndrews Road project began, so the city was required to create the area you see there beside the road. They hope no more mosquito larvae will use the constructed wetland than formerly used the natural wetland "displaced" by the project.
