Search of area home sheds little light on shooting probe BY JULIE SWENSEN Police are narrowing their focus in the shooting case of a Central Point man, and seized some items that may be connected to the case. Russell Slack, 50, was shot in his home last Sunday and remains in critical condition at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Police served a search warrant Thursday at 515 W. 11th St. in Medford, where they were looking not only for drugs but also for evidence that may be connected to the shooting. In addition to finding drugs -- police arrested people on drug charges -- police also found some stained clothing that's being examined by the Oregon State Police forensics lab, Central Point police chief Mike Sweeny said Friday. They found some other evidence, too, Sweeny said, but police didn't find a gun they were looking for. Sweeny said that Ted Walton, 40, a resident of the house, is one of the "people of interest" police are looking at, though he wouldn't say that Walton's a suspect. Walton has not been charged with anything. Slack, a landlord, had evicted Walton before, and there was an ongoing dispute between the two, the police chief said. Sweeny said that police were interviewing Walton's friends and had obtained a search warrant to search their vehicle.
