North battles South Eugene to 1-1 tie EUGENE - The final score fit the flow of the game Saturday afternoon as North Medford and South Eugene battled to a 1-1 tie. After North Medford fell behind in the 22nd minute when Axeman senior Todd Levin scored off a corner kick, the Black Tornado (1-1-1 overall) evened it up in the 27th minute. Sophomore forward Ian Norgan, making a cameo at midfield, finished a slick pass from senior midfielder Zach Taylor, moonlighting at forward. From there, the match stayed even the rest of the way, and North Medford secured a tie against the state's fourth-ranked team after losing at No. 9 Sheldon on Friday. "Really, it was just back-and-forth and not a whole lot of strong efforts as far as scoring chances," Tornado coach Rich Garcia said. "Both teams had nice passing and played well." Sophomore goalkeeper David Oliver was solid for North, and senior center fullback Ben Clark and senior right fullback Justin Bilodeau were staunch defensively. Garcia estimated the shots on goal to be even at 6-6. SOUTH MEDFORD 2, SHELDON 1 - At Eugene, junior midfielder Ryan Wallenburg made the most of his second chance, finishing a flicked-on corner kick in the 78th minute to clinch a dramatic victory for South Medford. After misfiring on a similar sequence minutes earlier, Wallenburg knocked in the game-winner off assists from Justin Baldoni and Daniel Hathaway. Baldoni used his head to flick on Hathaway's corner, and Wallenburg did the rest. The Panthers (3-0-1 overall) completed a rare weekend road sweep of fourth-ranked South Eugene and No. 9 Sheldon despite falling behind in the 11th minute against the Irish on Tyler Hamnun's goal. Pat Lower pulled South Medford even in the 18th minute. Senior fullback Adam Walport sent a diagonal cross to Wallenburg, who one-touched to Lower for the goal. Panther goalkeeper Blake St. Onge made a fully extended save of Jordan Carsilneck's blast inside the final two minutes. ASHLAND 4, NORTH SALEM 0 - At Salem, Jesse Hodges and Scott Beaver each scored two goals as Ashland dominated the non-conference match. It was the Grizzlies' third straight road win, leaving them 3-0 overall. Hodges scored at the 31st minute on an assist from Matt Sharp and at the 37th minute on a pass from Beaver. Hodges returned the favor to Beaver in stoppage time of the first half, the latter scoring from 5 yards out. Beaver scored 10 minutes into the second half, pounding the ball into the back of the net after a Sharp free kick caromed off the post. Ashland outshot the Vikings 26-2. EAGLE POINT 10, GLIDE 1 - At Eagle Point, Casey Murdock scored four goals and added an assist as Eagle Point squared its record at 2-2-1 in the non-conference match. The Eagles led 4-0 at halftime and made wholesale substitutions in the second half. Brandon Sinclair and Drew Curriston each had a goal and an assist, and other goals for the Eagles were by Robert Corliss, Jared Brautigam, Thomas Ussary and Troy Gammons. KLAMATH UNION 3, SUMMIT 0 - At Bend, returning first-team all-state forward Luis Garcia scored two unassisted goals to lead the Pelicans (2-0-2 overall) to the win. Ricardo Gurrero began the scoring in the 17th minute on an assist from Dan Carney. Garcia's goals came in the 35th and 59th minutes.
