Details emerge on shooting deaths of 3 family members Authorities search the scene of a triple-homicide on Nov. 7 in the town of Lookingglass in which three family members died. [Roseburg News Review file photo] Wednesday Nov 15, 2017 at 5:46 PM Nov 15, 2017 at 5:46 PM By Ian Campbell Roseburg News-Review LOOKINGGLASS — Recently released court documents provide details into the Nov. 7 shooting that left three people dead in the community of Lookingglass. Shortly before 8:45 p.m., Robert Adams dialed 911 to report that his foster son, 16-year-old Kevin Wayne Adams, had murdered his family in the 400 block of Whispering Pines Way. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and located and detained the teenage suspect. Inside the residence, police found three deceased victims. Court documents identify the victims as 55-year-old Donya Adams, Robert Adams’ wife; 26-year-old Amory Adams, the Adams’ daughter; and 10-year-old Payshience “Tia” Adams, the Adams’ foster daughter and Kevin Adams’ sister. The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office and members of the Douglas County Major Crimes Team later confirmed the victims’ identities. In an interview with police, Robert Adams said he left home at approximately 6:30 p.m. the day of the shooting and returned to the home shortly before making the 911 call. When he arrived home, he found his foster son outside who said to call the police, but said not to go inside. Robert Adams entered the house and found his family members dead. On his bed, Robert Adams found a handgun which was not where the firearm was supposed to be, according to court documents. Kevin Adams later told police that he shot the victims multiple times after his foster father left the house, and then waited outside for his return. Kevin Adams was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Facility. Aggravated murder can be punishable by death or life imprisonment, according to ORS 163.105. According to Brad O’Dell, a spokesman with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and was on scene. The team consists of detectives and investigators from the sheriff’s office, the Roseburg Police Department, the Oregon State Police and the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
